BONEX: Digital Platform for Sustainable Nexus in the Mediterranean

With a clean and carefully structured institutional design, BONEX's new website digitally embodies the project's ambition: to build a bridge between sectors traditionally treated in isolation — water, energy, food and ecosystems.

The platform consolidates scientific knowledge, practical methodologies and interactive tools, providing a solid basis for the integrated governance of natural resources in the Mediterranean region, accessible to researchers, policy makers, local stakeholders and the community at large.

The Context: A Systemic Approach to Natural Resources

BONEX has emerged in response to the growing challenges associated with pressure on natural resources resulting from intensified food production, increased energy demand, ecosystem degradation and the effects of climate change.

The WEFe Nexus concept

The strong interdependence between water, energy, food and ecosystems — known as the WEF Nexus — requires an integrated approach capable of assessing impacts, trade-offs and synergies between sectors.

In this context, BONEX proposes the development of a transdisciplinary framework, the WEFe Bridging Framework (WEFeF), which guides the creation of plans adapted to different territories and socio-economic realities in the Mediterranean region.

The digital handbook is structured into clearly defined phases — initiation, diagnosis, identification of interventions, evaluation, and implementation — allowing for sequential or targeted consultation, depending on the user's profile and objectives.

The hierarchy of content, typography and intuitive navigation were designed to serve both technical audiences (research, public policy, planning) and more general audiences (NGOs, local communities and interested citizens).

Management and continuous updating of content

The platform is ready to integrate new reports, fact sheets, demonstration project results, conclusions, and dissemination materials, ensuring that the project's progress is reflected in real time on the website.

Given BONEX's international character, covering several countries in the Mediterranean region, the website was designed to ensure global accessibility and support collaboration between multiple stakeholders.
